We were directed to find a problem in the community and provide architectural solutions. Recently the Bahamas had a terrible hurricane that devastated the island of Grand Bahama and left many residences displaced with no shelter. While trying to create an inclusive environment and bring about art awareness to this community I found it fitting to merge both ideas! Design problems: · 1. Lack of Art Awareness in the Bahamian Community. (This Art residency should help boost the economy, bringing various artist from around the world to this particular location) · 2. A need for a multipurpose facility: The intent is for the Art Residency to be converted into a Hurricane Shelter. 1. a. For this paper, I need a literature review of case studies depicting multiple art residencies. They must include: · a similar climate to the Bahamas · cultural aspects of the Bahamas 2. b. Review all aspects of the Art residencies such as: · their program · number of residents enrolled · how they bring awareness to the art community · how do they receive funding or sponsors · how do the residence sell their art work in auctions 3. c. Specify how the interior and exterior spaces are set up, as well as their adjacencies. 4. d. Sustainable Material (appropriate for Bahamian Climate) 5. e. Hurricane proof materials (façade, flooring, walls, paint, roof) 6. f. Review all aspects of a hurricane shelter
